Event Details

The Research Unit for Multilingualism and Cross-Cultural Communication (RUMACCC) at The University of Melbourne was established by Professor Michael Clyne in 2002 and passed its 10th anniversary in December 2012. We plan to celebrate this important event on Thursday February 23rd at the university and hope that you might be able to join us on that day.

We plan to run three interlinked events on Thursday February 23rd:

(1) Challenging the monolingual mindset: a research symposium focusing on a range of different fields and issues around language, both here in Australia and overseas, that were critical when RUMACCC was established and remain just as important now. Please email ymslau@unimelb.edu.au for the full program and abstracts or visit http://rumaccc.unimelb.edu.au/.

2) The inaugural Michael Clyne public lecture: Good evening Stockholm! English in Scandinavia - monster or mate? will be delivered by Professor Catrin Norrby who will be returning from the University of Stockholm. Catrin worked with Michael for many years at Monash University and The University of Melbourne.

(3) Drinks and book launch: A celebratory function and brief official launch of the newly published edited volume University and Diversity in Language Policy - Global Perspectives – which started life as a RUMACCC colloquium in late 2008.

Contact Yvette Slaughter (ymslau@unimelb.edu.au) for event program and abstracts or visit http://rumaccc.unimelb.edu.au/.
